News from our missionary, Peter Najar:

June 2010

Dear Friends:

Summer has come quickly but June temperatures are highs in the 70's and lows in the 60's until yesterday's 95.  As you know, Easter was quite exciting since our place was full and we had a special all day time together.   We have some momentum coming from our big service as some of the new folks still continue to come on Sundays.

Hannah has begun teaching students English and is doing well.   The locals here tell us that they are amazed how fluently Hannah is speaking since she's been gone so long.   (It's embarassing for me since I don't speak as well.)  The orphans have adopted Hannah as a sister and get along well with her.

The next upcoming request we have is related to our visa.   After one year, we always request a six month extension (the longest time allowed) so ours is coming up in October.   It may seem premature to mention this in June but the time goes by so quickly these days I wanted our prayer team to be aware ahead of time.   We commit this to the Lord.

Jessie's mother is no longer constantly nauseous and her chronic body pain has disappeared so she has maintained some level of comfort now but she still needs to begin to walk again.   We are glad that she has progressed along since her fall over Easter.   It's safe to say she's recovered from the operation but since she doesn't walk anymore, I'm not sure it's fair to say that she's recovered from the fall.

Finally, as we continue along month after month, I regularly take a deep breathe and release a big sigh allowing me to relax in my thoughts knowing you are behind us.
Thank you so much for everything!

Dear Friends:

While I don't think this is very funny at all, there is not a doubt in my mind that this will amuse anyone that knows me.   One of the most terrible things has happened to me on Monday and lingers today, Tuesday.   My voice absolutely left and disappeared.   I never remember ever in my life losing my voice like this.   Can you ever imagine that Peter Najjar can't talk?  I am supposed to drink some local home remedy tonight and the doctor has promised that I will be thanking him tomorrow when I have my voice back.   Stay tuned on that one.

I never realized that a large portion of my work is talking.   And of course, it's my hobby too but just now I'm relegated to running some errands, finding housing for incoming families by looking at the classifieds, and then today, by catching up on all of the computer and email work.   I am certainly walking by faith and not by sight since I've decided to keep the rest of my commitments for the week.  While I don't want to rely solely on some home remedy, everyone can agree in unified prayer that Peter's voice will return.

My friends who run the schools here in this neighborhood have graciously given me a desk to work from which is used as an office.   The building is nice and warm for the cold weather so we'll be fine until June and the only way to stay cool then is to think about how cold it was the rest of the time.   While this is not as practical as air-conditioning, it does produce temporary results from time to time.   Now that the roads are repaired and the bridges are finished, the travel time between home and the office is now only 15 minutes.   This is much better than the hour each way it was taking earlier.

While I wanted to send a postcard to everyone in time for Thanksgiving, it's not going to work since it takes awhile for postcards to get there so we will end up sending a photo at Christmas time  to our friends.   A few weeks ago, we were in the mountains as part of a corporate training for leaders and families who were from around Central Asia.  Three days impacting lives forever!  This would be considered by some to be the highlight of our year so far but everyone knows that for me, waking up everyday in Kazakhstan and serving the people here on a continual basis is a dream come true.

Finally, please remember how much you mean to us.   You make it possible for us to fly twelve time zones away to work in Central Asia where we live in a comfortable home, eat healthy foods, and have nice warm clothes to wear including our warm boots.   At such a time of the year as this, I can't think of a better way to share with you just how thankful we are for you than to say so now.  Of course, we thank God who is always watching over us but it's a blessing to recognize that you are the agents He uses so much of the time and we surely can't thank you enough for all that you continue to do.

Sincerely,

Peter and Jessie Najjar

Dear Friends:

Jessie and I arrived back in Kazakhstan during the wee hours of Saturday morning.   This was one of the best trips for us from various standpoints both physically and spiritually.

     1.  All baggage arrived with us which is very rare.
     2.  Since we rested a few days ahead of the travels, we are recovering swiftly.
     3.  We went straight to a friend's apartment instead of hotel our first day.
     4.  We also arranged our temporary housing the next day.
     5.  On Sunday, we met several enthusiastic people with a vision for Kazakhstan.
     6.  We also met key leaders who also have great plans for Central Asia.
     7.  Monday, we got acquainted with teachers who share our values.
     8.  Touring the neighborhood by daily walks provides a sense of belonging.

One of our highlights this weekend was walking through a nearby store which has some of the items we removed from our overweight suitcases in the States.

We are meeting tonight with the future landlord about moving into long-term housing on October 3rd.   At this time, final details will be discussed and settled.

Thank you so much for allowing us the privilege to continue serving in Central Asia!

Sincerely,

Peter & Jessie Najjar

Dear Friends:

We have composed this list because you or your church is involved with
supporting us or you have supported us over the years but still have an
interest in what is going on.   If for any reason, we are mistaken about
your interest in our work, please let us know if you desire to be removed
from our list.    Meanwhile, we have added the idea to include a photo or
two occasionally with the notes.

I thought by now you would have received a copy of the dvd production we
finally completed this month but I had a little glitch with burning those
dvd copies so they are going out as soon as I burn them.    I plan to send
the dvd out except for Florida who hopefully have a few copies circulating
around already since that's where the production was done at the Mission's
Conference down there.

Finally, Jessie and I are in the States for a few more months.   Hannah
graduates in another month while Joseph completes his first year.     We
have one speaking engagement slot open in April, and a few more in May &
June before Jessie and I head over to Kazakhstan.   If you don't have the
capacity for photos, let me know and I will remove the attachments to your
address so you still have the updates.
